Barber Library Information for Middle School and High School Instructors

ADVANCE NOTICE

Please give COCC library staff a 'heads up" regarding your class visit by calling Cat Finney at (541) 383-7559 or e-mailing at cfinney@cocc.edu. Please include the number of students estimated to visit. If you wish to fax (541-383-7507) or e-mail a copy of any library-related assignment prior to your class visit, we will be able to pass it on to our reference desk staff (so they can better assist your students) in advance.

CIRCULATION POLICIES AND LOAN PRIVILEGES

The COCC Barber Library is open to the public at no charge for on-site use of collections. Central Oregon residents 16 years of age or older may check out materials from the circulating collection after they acquire a library card. A photo id and proof of address are required for community patron cards. The library does not issue library cards to children younger than 16 years old unless they are currently enrolled in COCC courses.
High school instructors requiring students to check-out books will want to remind students (16 and older) to bring photo ID and proof of address with them if they don't already have a COCC Barber Library community patron card.
Instructors planning large class visits may want to obtain community patron card application forms from the COCC Barber Library circulation desk and distribute them to students in advance of their visit. Students (16 and older) will still need to bring photo ID and proof of address with them. Please call Library Circulation Manager at 541-383-7565 for more information.

LIBRARY TOURS

While the COCC Barber Library staff does not provide tours to groups of middle school or high school students, we will be happy to schedule a preliminary meeting with middle school and high school instructors for 30-60 minutes to prepare instructors for their students' visit.
Instructors will be able to meet with a librarian, tour the campus library themselves, get acquainted with the library's online catalog, periodical databases and other resources, and review Campus Library circulation policies. These meetings are not mandatory in advance of class visits, but can be helpful in orienting instructors to COCC Barber Library resources. Please note that the constellation of COCC Barber Library resources can change rapidly from one year to the next.
