The COCC Barber Library has 29 computer workstations designed for academic research. Please read the Acceptable Use Policy that applies to these workstations. For productivity applications such as wordprocessing, spreadsheets, and image manipulation, students must use one of the campus computer labs.
Internet access for laptops
Wireless
The library is now equipped to provide wireless network access to registered users including COCC & OSU-Cascades patrons as well as community patrons and campus visitors. For more information please refer to the Wireless Network web page.
Ethernet
The library also has a number of Ethernet ports available for accessing the Internet using laptops (ask at the reference desk for the location of these ports).
If you have an ethnernet card and a 10-base-T connection, your PC will automatically receive an IP address on bootup if it has tcp/ip installed and is set to "obtain IP address from DHCP server."
What software is available on library workstations?
- Web Browser: Internet Explorer (and various plug-ins including RealPlayer, Adobe Acrobat, Quicktime, etc.)
- Microsoft Office applications

How do I print a portion of the text of a web page?
-Select "Print Preview" from the file menu, find the pages that you want to print, then click on "print." Enter the page numbers that you want to print in the dialogue box.

- Highlight the text that you desire to print, go to the Edit pull down menu, highlight ‘copy.’
- Open Word, go the Edit pull-down menu, and choose ‘paste.’ The text that you just copied will appear.
-In Word, go to the File pull down menu and click on ‘Print.’
How do I print a web page with white lettering
-In Explorer, click on the file menu, then "page setup"; choose "Options"; click on Properties" then select "Graphics" and then click on "print as a negative image."
-Insert a 3.5" floppy disk in the cpu.
-In Explorer, pull down the file menu, click on ‘save as’.
-Choose the desktop in the dialogue box, then the 31/2 floppy drive
-Choose the appropriate file name.
-Choose the desired format (.html if you want to open the page in a web browser, .txt if you want to open it in a word processor).
-Click on save
How do I email the contents of a web page?
-Open a second browser window and cut and paste the page or the url of the page into a web-based email account.
-Some web applications, such as library databases, offer the option to email results to a particular email address; in this case use your own email address.
